Louisa Bufardeci

Coming soon to the MCA is a fascinating artist, Louisa Bufardeci. Her works have previously involved the supplanting of statistical information, in place of geographical measurement, what the map of the earth would look like if GDP ruled the world. Oscillations are often a theme and her work features alot of tapestry.

From http://www.Louisa Bufardeci.net -Regarding the MCA piece, pictured, Team Joy (2004):

"In the piece, almost two hundred sticks appear to support two walls that may either be falling down or in the process of construction. Each stick represents an international organisation with its length determined by the number of that organisation's member countries. Every country has a unique colour which is illustrated in the key painted on the walls."

This was a collaborated work with the supporting efforts of, "other artists included: Ingrid Book and Carina Hedn, Christian Capurro, Emily Floyd, Alban Hajdinaj, Nora Martirosyan, Chad McCail, Martin McInerney, Callum Morton, Raquel Ormella, Pia Rnicke, Katya Sander, Tony Schwensen, Dmitry Vilensky, Danielle van Vree, Guan Wei, Kan Xuan and Carey Young"

Exhibition also featuring similarly embroidered, political and also statistical works from Zon Ito, is opening on 28 July 2009.
