Yayoi Kusama: Mirrored Years

As i mentioned in class i went to see this exhibition. It was absolutely amazing and like i said... i cried when i went into the Infinity mirror room. I literally did not know how else to react. Kusama works with many different media and forms including painting, collage, sculpure and insallation. It was quite evident as i wandered through the exhibition that there was a recurring theme of dots and circles. It was then explained that Kusama actually has a mental illness and throughout her life she had various episodes where she would see dots and circles (usually in times of stress or pain). So really it was Kusama's illness that led to her greatness. At this time in her life (shes about 80 y.o now) she resides in a mental institution AND of course her studio is just down the road...
